Caring For Your Wool Rug
Fibre Maintenance

Most of us prefer using rugs over other floorings as they are a great addition to any room in the house. They are durable, warm, and comfortable underfoot. But, while they add a lot of visual interest and help protect floors from wear and tear, it is in your best interest to maintain the condition of your investment. Read on for easy steps on proper care for your wool rug.
Vacuum Your Rug Regularly
Vacuum your rug regularly. It is the best way to maintain and keep your area rug looking good. It helps if you hoover at least once a week to rid of dirt and dust particles that may have accumulated over time. If you do not vacuum often enough, the dust and debris will eventually build up on your rug and cause damage. Vacuum the back to keep it dust free and prevent mites from harboring underneath.
Muddy footprints and stains (cry out loud) we've all been there. Even with the 'no-shoes indoor' policy, we still tend to have to deal with it when it just happens. With prompt treatment of a recommended stain remover and gently blotting the stain with a towel is the best thing to do immediately.
Tip: Deal will spill immediately, and never brush or scrub out any stains as this might make it worse. Always do a stain removal test before (stop if you notice run/ colour mix when test washing) tackling the entire rug.
Clean Your Rug With Gentle Detergent And Water Solution
To renew the appearance of your floor rug, you can give it a quick surface wash. After vacuuming and removing most of the dust, begin by dipping the sponge in the cleaning water solution and sponging in the direction of the pile. Use clean water and an almost dry sponge with gentle pressure over the entire rug and clean any residue before drying.
Do not overwet the rug. It should be barely wet as wool fibers are very absorbent and can take a long time to dry. Blot the cleaned area with a towel to absorb moisture, and repeat until you blot dry wherever necessary. Finally, hang out the rug with as much airflow to dry completely.
Tip: When you are ready to do a deep clean, pick a sunny day to help the carpet dry more quickly.
Use a Rug Pad
A rug pad is a thin layer of material underneath your rug to protect the floor beneath. A rug pad is usually made of foam or rubber and helps prevent scratches and other damage. Once your area rug is completely dry, place it on the rug pad.
Keep Your Wool Rug Clean Longer
Set the vacuum to the lowest as indoor carpets have a lower pile.
Regular sweeping or vacuuming at least once a week
Treat stains quickly.
Stains like oil and pet accidents will require special treatment.
Seasonally, rotate the rug to prevent excessive wear patterns and uneven fading.
Clean area rugs before storing them.
If you have a busy household or frequently entertain guests, you will need a long-lasting, durable rug, and thanks to its low-pile weave, wool rug are very hard-wearing. So when it comes time to clean, shake out any debris and vacuum or spot treat as needed.
